Nutrition Is Key To General Health & Athletic Performance

If you follow me on Instagram (@fit.healthy.foodie), you know that I’m always advocating that nutrition is key. And btw, if you’re not following me on IG, then you must!

We all know that food is essential in our lives. Our bodies need nutrients such as proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals for energy, growth and development. We need a variety of foods to maintain good health. Did you know that food is also important for reaching our fitness goals?

Sports Nutrition

Sports nutrition has short-term as well as long-term effects on our body composition, metabolism and ultimately our performance abilities. Hence why our diet can have significant influences on our athletic performance.

When I got into powerlifting which was about a year and a half ago, I always felt that a lot of my workout sessions were not my best workouts. I felt that I could have pushed myself more to lift heavier and to complete an additional rep or two. I knew it had to do with the amount and the composition of the food I was eating.

Therefore, even though I was working out 4-5 times a week for months and months, my results were only mediocre. My goal was to gain strength. The strength came very slowly and then ultimately tapered off. I had reached my limit.

Don’t get me wrong, I ate (for the most part) very healthy. I believe in moderation and not deprivation. Therefore, I had treats here and there. I ate out approximately 3 times a week. But overall, I had healthy and nutritious meals.

Performance and Nutrition

Fast forward to current day, I’ve learned so much by completing courses after courses, as well as obtaining diplomas on Fitness & Weight Loss, Nutrition and Sports & Exercise Nutrition. I now understand that I wasn’t feeding my body the right amounts of nutrients in order to have the energy for my workouts. Nutrient timing is also very important in terms of athletic performance.

Nutrition is also individualized. My nutritional needs and your nutritional needs would most likely be totally different. This is because each person’s needs depends on their age, gender, personal goals, metabolism and general overall health.

Let me help you in putting together a sports nutrition plan. You’ll be amazed at how much better you’ll feel in terms of energy. It makes such a difference.
